U.S. Representatives Send Letter of Support for VEGA to USAID

By , Communications and Advocacy Associate

Members of the House of Representatives sent a letter of support for VEGA to USAID Acting Administrator Wade Warren. In the letter, Representatives French Hill (R-AR 2nd District), David Cicilline (D-RI 1st District), Daniel M. Donovan, Jr. (R-NY 11th District), Gerald E. Connolly (D-VA 11th District), Brad Sherman (D-CA 30th District), Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH 1st District), Don Beyer (D-VA 8th District), and Chris Stewart (R-UT 2nd District) encouraged Mr. Warren to preserve VEGA by granting an extension to the current Leader With Associate (LWA) award. The Representatives all agree that the VEGA LWA, which utilizes highly skilled volunteers, is an adaptable and effective funding mechanism for USAID field missions.

VEGA is valuable to the U.S. taxpayer, to USAID field missions, and to meeting U.S. foreign assistance objectives. Further, funding for VEGA is not an additional appropriation, and during a time of uncertain budget conditions, continuing successful foreign assistance program that deliver real savings to the U.S. taxpayer should be a priority.
